Way back in the mists of time when I was a wee whipper snapper trying to make my way in the world of filmmaking, I would send off my meager resume and a beautifully crafted cover letter to all the production companies in the hope of getting work. More often than not I would receive no reply at all. On occasion I would get a stock standard letter in return. Needless to say, after all the time and effort I put into crafting the letters, getting no to little reply was frustrating to say the least.
Fast forward twenty years and I finally get why. Running my own production company and being publicly listed in places like the Encore Directory and the Production Book means there is a steady flow of letters, resumes, show reels, emails and work samples being sent my way. Unfortunately, there simply isn’t enough time to hand craft a personal letter in response to each and every one. It would literally be a full time job.
So the solution I have come up with to save both yours and my time is simple. Like our Facebook page and when we require someone for a specific role, we’ll post it there. This saves you going to the effort of writing cover letters and customising resumes when there’s a good chance we’re not even looking for someone at that particular time.
From now on, all our casting calls, crew calls and various artist and crafts people requirements will be published on Facebook and on this page. We are a small production house but we do hire people, usually on a project by project basis and sometimes it can be with very little notification.
My hope this will help make the process easier for all involved and save time for everyone.
